This Equine Ortho-Bionomy(R) course focuses on the equine limbs and the structures that contribute to the healthy movement of limbs. It also includes new research on the nuchal ligament and its relationship to surrounding structures. How do you keep a horse moving well and/or within a comfortable range of function?

In achieving body harmony, it’s important to take into account the entire limb, including ligaments and tendons when assessing healing of the limb.

Tissue differences, range of motion and exploration of movement of the whole horse give us information on how the horse moves. These tools are essential for accurate equine biomechanical assessment and help us to provide the bodywork care that is most specific and beneficial.

In this course we will cover the following:

  • Observation of the horse’s gait, preferences, demeanor, facial expressions and other well-being indicators.
  • Looking at the whole horse as well as the injury, condition, etc. that is affecting the horse’s demeanor and movement.
  • Identifying soft tissue, ligaments and tendons (including organ ligaments) and how to work with them.
  • Identifying signs that the horse is feeling better or what we need to do to achieve that.

The course includes: lecture and materials, charts, lively classroom discussion, in-class viewing of 3D Horse Anatomy with Biosphera, plus student videos and photos with a variety of equines.

This class and its techniques are not a substitute for veterinary care, but rather, a complement to it.

Prerequisite: Preferred  but not essential that students have taken Equine Body Balance, Equine Ortho-Bionomy(R) or Ortho-Bionomy(R) course prior to this one.

Do contact the instructor if you have any questions or need help with logging onto Zoom. Early Bird rate applies on or before October 10, 2026. NCBTMB Approved Provider #100176. This course is also SOBI-approved.
