Healing through self-correction
Ortho-Bionomy is a comprehensive, powerful non-force bodywork system that addresses all body systems and relies on the body’s innate ability to self-correct. This is what distinguishes it from other forms of bodywork. Ideally, the self-corrective mechanism becomes nourished through the work and can operate on its own, without continual sessions. This will depend, of course, on the health of the organism and its ability to process, as well as new stresses being introduced. The work can have deep and lasting effects as the body grows more empowered and self-healing.
“After almost 2 weeks of constant discomfort and pain, I had an Ortho-Bionomy session yesterday with Susan Smith, and then had my best night’s sleep since my wreck. Thank you thank you thank you Susan!” – CR
Ortho-Bionomy was founded by British-trained osteopath Arthur Lincoln Pauls, who discovered that by stimulating the body’s reflexes, healing can take place. He also worked with the principles of Dr. Lawrence Jones who discovered that by placing the body in a comfortable position, the body could release tension, hence his work is called “positional release,” and later “strain and counterstrain.”
Ortho-Bionomy is principle-based, relying on the use of compression, specific contact, and exploration of movement as well as concepts such as “less is more,” and “moving in the direction of ease.” A profound result of the work is pain relief and sustainable health results, by meeting the body where it is. Ortho-Bionomy is particularly helpful for acute pain, where massage and physical therapy may be contraindicated.

“After your treatment, my kidney heat calmed down. This was truly miraculous. I began to feel noticeably better today as well. Ortho is much more powerful than I ever could’ve imagined! I’m on the mend, so thank you again so much. ” -LL.
Ortho-Bionomy has also been used in school programs.
